- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp instant yeast
- 1 ¼ cups warm milk (2% or whole)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 4 cloves fresh garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley (optional, chopped)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, melt butter over low heat
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant
- Set aside to cool slightly
- In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine flour, yeast, salt, and sugar
- Add warm milk and half the garlic butter
- Mix until a soft dough forms, about 5 minutes on low speed
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and tacky
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with damp cloth
- Let rise in warm spot for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size
- Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal pieces
- Shape into balls and place in greased baking dish
- Let rise for 30 minutes
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden
- Brush with remaining garlic butter and serve warm
Notes
Use fresh garlic for best taste. Let dough rise in warm spot like near heater or oven with light on. Use kitchen scale to divide dough evenly for uniform baking. Add dried parsley or oregano to garlic butter for herby twist. Freezer-friendly – make big batch and freeze extras.
